BSG: NEW DELHI, India; In both preventive and curative medicine, the current trend is towards a holistic approach that recognizes the importance of the mind-body connection in the process of healing. Highlighting this, Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG) organized the fourth BSG All India Healthcare Professionals Seminar, “Beyond Medicine: Cultivating Inner Well-being for Holistic Health.” The seminar focused on the critical notion of well-being and emphasized the role of humanistic values in fostering a comprehensive approach to healthcare.

Three eminent speakers graced the event: Dr. Mathew Varghese, Head of Orthopaedics at St. Stephen’s Hospital (Former Director of St. Stephen’s Hospital), Sujay Santra, Founder & CEO of iKure Techsoft, and Dr. Parveen Bhatia, Senior Consultant Surgeon in Laparoscopic & Robotic Bariatric Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. They elaborated on various facets of holistic healthcare, emphasizing the integration of compassion, empathy, respect for autonomy, and meaningful connections into medical practice.

In her inaugural address, Ms. Jaya Rao, BSG National Healthcare In-charge, reaffirmed the commitment of Bharat Soka Gakkai to promoting a more humanistic approach to healthcare.

Dr. Mathew Varghese, addressing the issue, remarked, “Modern medicine is a relatively young science. Our understanding of biological systems and cellular functions, advanced as it may seem, is still in its infancy. Rapid strides in scientific knowledge and computing have led to the evolution of systems and processes that were unthinkable even a decade ago. However, despite 4.5 million years of evolution, where is man as an individual and as a social being? Evolutionary biologists talk about the evolution of Homo sapiens, but have we evolved? How will our actions shape the future of mankind?”

Emphasizing the need to reach the last mile, Sujay Santra stated, “Bharat Soka Gakkai tirelessly promotes peace, culture, and education, while iKure is on a mission to revolutionize healthcare access and outcomes through AI and innovation, empowering communities so that no one is left behind. Inner peace can drive outer health. Together, let’s build a future where well-being transcends the physical and embraces the mind and spirit, fostering healthcare for all.”

Dr. Parveen Bhatia added another dimension, discussing the importance of integrating advanced medical technologies with a patient-centered approach. He highlighted how robotic surgery and other innovations can enhance patient outcomes when combined with a focus on inner well-being and holistic health.

In his closing remarks, BSG Chairperson Mr. Vishesh Gupta stated, cultivating humanistic values strengthens the overall life force in our being which helps to combat illness and builds holistic health.

The seminar aimed to equip healthcare professionals to cultivate a sense of inner well-being within themselves and their patients. By embracing humanistic values and incorporating practices that promote holistic health, a more patient-centered and sustainable healthcare system can be created.
