New Delhi, July 2026 : Demonstrating the growing global capabilities of India’s indigenous medical technology, SS Innovations International has successfully enabled a robotic telesurgery between Hospital Internacional de Colombia and Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, Indore, spanning an approximate 22,000 km fibre network distance. The milestone highlights how the Made-in-India SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System is redefining the future of surgical care by enabling expert surgeons to operate across continents while expanding access to advanced minimally invasive procedures.
The robotic sleeve gastrectomy was remotely performed from Colombia by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO of SS Innovations International, along with Dr. Víctor Raúl Castillo Mantilla and Dr. Jonathan Caceres Prada. The patient-side surgical team in Indore was led by renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Mohit Bhandari, supported by Dr. Abhishek Tiwari, ensuring seamless execution of the procedure despite the vast geographical separation. The surgery was completed with a network latency of approximately 275–285 milliseconds (round-trip time), demonstrating the precision, stability and reliability of the SSI Mantra platform over ultra-long distances.
The achievement marks another significant step towards making specialised surgical expertise available beyond metropolitan hospitals. By enabling expert surgeons to remotely support procedures in distant locations, robotic telesurgery has the potential to decentralise advanced healthcare, reduce geographical disparities, strengthen surgical mentoring and training, and improve patient access to complex procedures without requiring long-distance travel.
Unlike many imported robotic platforms, the SSI Mantra has been designed and manufactured in India with a strong focus on affordability and accessibility. Its significantly lower acquisition and operating costs enable more hospitals to adopt robotic surgery, helping democratise advanced surgical care across tier-II and tier-III cities as well as international markets. With indigenous engineering, scalable technology and broad multi-speciality applications, the platform is positioning India as a global innovator in surgical robotics while making advanced healthcare economically viable for a much larger population.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO, SS Innovations International, said:
“This successful telesurgery between Colombia and India demonstrates that geography need no longer be a barrier to quality surgical care. Our vision has always been to build a Made-in-India robotic platform that not only delivers world-class clinical performance but also makes robotic surgery affordable and accessible to hospitals worldwide. Every such milestone strengthens our commitment to decentralising specialised surgical expertise and bringing advanced healthcare closer to patients, wherever they are.”
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, Founder and Director, Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, Indore, said:
“This procedure demonstrates how robotic telesurgery can transform healthcare delivery by connecting centres of excellence with hospitals across regions and countries. As surgeons, our objective is to ensure that patients receive the best possible expertise without being constrained by distance. The affordability and versatility of the SSI Mantra platform make it a practical solution for expanding robotic surgery beyond a few elite institutions and accelerating its adoption across India and the developing world.”
As robotic surgery continues to evolve, the successful collaboration between Colombia and Indore showcases the immense potential of indigenous innovation to reshape global healthcare. By combining advanced robotics, high-speed communication networks and clinical excellence, SS Innovations International is building an ecosystem where specialised surgical care can be delivered across borders, improving patient outcomes while making cutting-edge technology more inclusive, affordable and widely available.
